Day 22 (Austin)

Today, I had two things planned: a NAPFA peer review and picking up BBQ from Franklin’s.

I am joining a fee-only financial association, and I had to meet with a current member as part of the process to get accepted. It was a really good conversation.

I also ordered 2 lbs of brisket, 2 lbs of ribs, 2 sausage links, and chili from Franklin’s, which is a famous Austin BBQ spot I have wanted to try since I first came to Austin many years ago. During the pandemic, they only offer pre-ordering and pick up, which isn’t too bad because sometimes people get in line at 6 a.m. or 7 a.m. to get lunch.

The wait, despite having a pickup time, was still about 45 minutes at Franklin’s, but the BBQ lived up to the hype.

We enjoyed a good, heavy meal. Their BBQ sauce has espresso in it. The ribs were perfectly seasoned. The brisket was moist. The chili had a nice kick to it.

I can see why they sell out constantly.

In the evening, we played video games, which was nice because I haven’t played video games in many, many years. It was a good way to unwind.
